I have been obsessively studying the history of Mexican spirits to include Tequila, Mezcal, Raicilla, Sotol, Charanda (Mexican rum) Bacanora, distilled types of pulque and more for 13 years. During this time I have traveled to 22 of the 32 states in Mexico learning the different techniques and history of how these spirits are made and who makes them. Below are two examples of Raicilla being distilled around Zapotitlan de Vadillo, Jalisco.
On Friday July 18th, I will open and share with you 6 expressions of Mexico's present and past history of distilled spirits. We will sip through some of the best tequilas made today alongside some unclassified distilled agave spirit made in Sonora and whos still is mostly made from old truck parts. Do you want to explore sotols and lechuguillas from Madera, Chihuahua or Racilla distilled in Filipino style tree trunk stills cut directly from the Bonete tree? This event is for you and it will only run you $35 a person and the tasting is being held at the amazing Burrell School Winery inside the old schoolhouse. If you have not been, its beautiful with some amazing views, there are even a few agave plants for reference. Now, lets geek out...Salut!
